I get asked this question all the time. It really depends on how much you value you personal brand. Let me explain. Most people take hours if not days putting together a CV. They want it to be as good as it can be so that they have the best shot at landing that job, closing that deal, or getting a meeting this a prospect. What you may not know is that according to a 2018 CareerBuilder survey, 70% of employers use social media to screen candidates during the hiring process. That is a significant number so you need to make sure your profile is up to scratch.
It has been said that it takes approximately 7 seconds for people to make a first impression when meeting them in person. However, if they are looking at a photograph it has been estimated that it takes a tenth of a second to form that same opinion. Knowing that the first thing people will look at in a profile you need to make sure it is the right photograph.
I’m still amazed at the number of people that put so much effort into their LinkedIn profile and then use a selfie as their main photo. At the very least let someone else take your photograph. Ideally, you will get your photograph captured by a professional headshot photographer. Professional headshot photographers are trained to get the best look for each person and design an image that speaks the right language.
So, is headshot photography expensive. I certainly don’t think so. As an example, as session with me is $275 and you leave with 3 professional, retouched images that will give you the best chance to take it to the next level and give you the best chance at getting that job. It is a relatively inexpensive way to stand out from the crowd and get noticed. You will convey a more professional image and will be a massive benefit in getting to the next round. Afterall….. your image represents you when you are not there.
