Environmental portraits. Your visual elevator pitch. / by Dan Cantero

Part of being a professional or a business owner is explaining to others what you do for work. This is often referred to as an elevator pitch. A short prepared answer that explains what you do, and hopefully, it is understood by the other party.

But what do you do when you are trying to explain it to someone online? Because we don’t have the luxury of verbal communication it becomes more difficult. In most cases, people will head straight to your ABOUT ME page on your website. At this point, you write some blurb about who you are and what you do and hopefully people will read it. This is where an environmental portrait adds tremendous value. An environmental portrait is a styled photograph that describes not only what you do but also attempts to communicate aspects of your personality.

Have a look at the samples below. It should give you a fairly good idea of what these people do for a living. It is also a great way to project your personality, professionalism and attitude all of which contribute to building trust. So when putting together an ABOUT ME page, stop to consider how an environmental portrait can help you put across the right message.
